80′s Iconic Films

The 80s Films That Are Iconic In Our Memory

There are many 80′s films that are remembered to be iconic and fun. There are others that were dramas and changed how people thought about important issues in the world. Here are a few of the films of the eighties that changed the world and the world of film making.

The Breakfast Club: Director John Hughes put teens on the map with his legacy of iconic films that are still being treasured today. The club of teenagers on a Saturday detention in a school library dug deep into the core of many of us that we are all different but we still all want to be accepted. Through humour and music Hughes showed us that we are all a little bit the same underneath.

Back to the Future Trilogy: Take the ultimate car, a curious kid and a crazy inventor and you have the trilogy of Back to the Future. The story is simple yet complex at the same time. If you mess with your future you affect it. This series of 80s movies are still enjoyed and make us all wish we had a time machine made out of a De-Lorean.

Indiana Jones: After Star Wars came the Indiana Jones trilogy on its coat tails. The inspiring mild mannered Professor Jones lives the life of an adventurer who proved that artefacts and true grit toppled the evil minds of greed. The 80s movies live on today for our enjoyments, as well as a fun ride in a theme park.

Die Hard: Still considered a Christmas movie to some testosterone driven people this 80s film changed the way you look at your spouse’s company office party. It is a true action movie proving that one man can make a difference and save everyone from terrorists with the help of a few catch phrases people still use today.

Top Gun: Since this 80s movie broke out in the 80s people have been feeling the need for speed ever since. This film also rekindled the desire for young people to join the military to emulate the characters they saw in this classic film. It was a generation breaker in the way music was used to fuel a storyline as well and had men singing to women in bars again.

Ghostbusters: In my mind an absolute classic 80s film. Whether you believe in ghosts or not it was fun to see the Stay-Puff Marshmallow man trying to take out New York City. These three nerds from a college who saved the world will be remembered for their wit of one-liners that changed the way we look at physics in relation to a Twinkie. For example, where do these stairs go? They go up.

Other top movies of the 1980s genre can also be remembered such as The Goonies, Stand by Me and Beetlejuice. And who can forget Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure. 80s movies are still classics today and enjoyed by many new people each year. They have stood the test of time. Even if the special effects may be outdated in our world of CGI, their stories live on and are relate-able to current and future generations. I for one look forward to all my favourite 80s films being remade so I can say the originals were better.
